TAKE ACTION: Development at Exit 109

The Corporate Park property at GSP Exit 109 has been designated by Middletown Township as “An Area in Need of Redevelopment” by Middletown. This 35-acre parcel is surrounded by the Swimming River, a preserved, environmentally sensitive wetlands area which is a habitat for numerous birds, fish, reptiles and mammals, and endangered birds such as the bald eagle. Middletown has amended its Master Plan’s Housing Plan to incorporate the property. Additionally, AvalonBay Communities Inc., a publicly traded real estate investment company that invests in apartments, has applied to the NJDEP for a waiver which would allow them to alter the wetland transition zone of the Swimming River. Avalon Bay Communities Inc. seeks to build hundreds of residential units at the site. The waiver application is being reviewed by the NJDEP, and neighbors are asking the public to read and sign the Change.org petition and write a letter to the NJDEP to prevent this waiver approval.

The Lincroft Village Green Association is watching this potential project closely and communicating with residents and environmentalists from Lincroft, Tinton Falls and beyond as we unify to protect the destruction of the Swimming River. Investigation must be done to stop any redevelopment which will negatively affect our environment and the safety of our drinking water which originates from the Swimming River Reservoir.

Please join our volunteer organization to stay informed on this and other important issues as we advocate to protect our land from detrimental development.
